Hana Pay users will be able to use QR payments while traveling abroad without needing separate currency exchange thanks to the service launch.
GLN is a financial services company specializing in overseas travel, providing QR payment and QR withdrawal (ATM) services in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Japan. It was established in 2021 as a subsidiary of Hana Bank.
In particular, GLN is frequently used by Korean travelers in places such as Thailand and Vietnam, where QR payments are more common than card payments.
Previously, GLN’s overseas QR payment service was offered through the Hana 1Q app and the Hana Money app within Hana Financial Group. With this Hana Pay adoption, the company expects it to become Hana Financial Group’s flagship overseas payment service.
Hana Pay is a digital payment service used by 12 million Hana Card customers in Korea. Through integration with GLN’s overseas QR payment service, it is expected to grow into an integrated financial platform capable of overseas QR payments.
In particular, the QR payment method, which does not require an offline currency exchange process, now enables overseas travelers to experience economical and convenient payment services.
Sung Young-soo, CEO of Hana Card, said, “We have enhanced customer convenience through various global financial services, including the Travelog card,” adding, “With the introduction of this GLN overseas QR payment service, we will provide an even more differentiated global mobile finance experience.”
