[Global Epic Newseop Finance·Pension CP] Another innovation has begun in Korea’s card industry. Hana Card’s ‘Hana Pay QR Withdrawal’ service, announced on the 23rd, is expected to completely change how overseas travelers withdraw cash.
Hana Card (CEO Sung Young-soo) announced that it will introduce an overseas ATM ‘QR Withdrawal’ function to Hana Pay, its flagship digital payment service. This is the first service of its kind among domestic card companies, allowing users to withdraw cash overseas using only a QR code without the complicated card insertion process.
This service was implemented through the global payment platform of GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank. Since its establishment in 2021, GLN has expanded QR-based financial services in major countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, China, the Philippines, Laos, and Japan.
In particular, Hana Card had already introduced GLN’s overseas ‘QR Payment’ service to Hana Pay in April this year, and with the addition of this ‘QR Withdrawal’ service, it has completed an integrated digital-based financial service for the entire overseas travel process.
Hana Pay is currently a core digital platform used by 12 million Hana Card customers. Expanding from domestic payment-centered services to overseas QR payment and withdrawal services, it is accelerating its transformation into a global integrated financial platform.
To commemorate the service launch, Hana Card has also prepared a large-scale promotion. From September 1 to October 31, when using GLN’s ‘QR Withdrawal’ service in Thailand, users who withdraw 3,000 THB (about KRW 120,000) or more will receive a full cashback of the 85 THB (about KRW 3,400) withdrawal fee.
An industry official analyzed, “Hana Card’s latest service is a meaningful attempt that not only resolves inconveniences for overseas travelers but also presents the direction of digital innovation for card companies,” adding, “Other card companies are also expected to consider introducing similar services.”
Starting with this QR withdrawal service, Hana Card plans to gradually expand GLN’s service regions and accelerate the establishment of a one-stop digital financial service for overseas travelers.
