GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank, announced on the 11th that it signed a strategic partnership with UnionPay International and launched a global QR payment service worldwide, centered on Greater China (including China, Hong Kong, and Macau).
GLN users can now make payments on the UnionPay QR network, which operates in 47 countries and regions worldwide, and can also use the service at WeChat Pay QR-code merchants.
This global QR payment service provides the same environment not only on the GLN application (app) but also on major partner apps such as Hana Bank, Hana Money, Hana Card, and Toss. To celebrate this global launch, GLN is offering a promotion through the end of February next year: a 10% cashback benefit for payments of 100 yuan (CNY) or more at offline merchants across China (including Hong Kong and Macau).
This expansion by GLN signifies more than a simple country expansion; it means GLN payments are now available in all major travel destinations in Asia. Currently, GLN also provides convenient QR-code payment services in Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Japan, and Taiwan. With the addition of China, Hong Kong, and Macau, GLN has established itself as a payment network spanning all of Asia. It is also preparing a QR-based ATM cash withdrawal service in Hong Kong and Macau.
In addition, UnionPay is a global payment network brand usable in more than 180 countries and regions worldwide, and through this partnership, GLN expects to significantly expand its actual customer usage coverage.
Lee Seok, CEO of GLN International, said, “We have prepared this so that customers traveling in China can pay conveniently and safely with just the GLN app without cash,” adding, “We hope the 10% cashback promotion offered with the global launch will reduce travel cost burdens and allow more customers to experience easy mobile payments.”
