GLN International and Kakao Pay launch 'QR Withdrawal Service' at ATMs in Thailand

Japan ATM QR withdrawal service also set to expand in April, helping enhance convenience for overseas travelers

GLN International (CEO Lee Seok, hereinafter “GLN”), together with KakaoPay, is launching a “QR Withdrawal Service” available at ATMs across Thailand to improve convenience for overseas travelers.

This service is a case that combines GLN’s global QR withdrawal network with KakaoPay’s mobile platform capabilities, enabling KakaoPay users to withdraw local currency (THB) by scanning a 'QR code' without a physical card at approximately 9,000 SCB (Siam Commercial Bank) ATMs installed throughout Thailand.

In particular, GLN’s “QR Withdrawal” service applies a fee of about one-third the cost of existing credit/debit card withdrawal fees (250 THB per transaction, about KRW 11,500), at 85 THB per transaction (about KRW 3,900), allowing cash withdrawals in Thailand at real-time exchange rates at a more economical cost.

In addition, GLN plans to run a cashback event until the end of this month for customers using Thailand ATM “QR Withdrawal,” providing a fee cashback (85 THB per transaction) when withdrawing 6,000 THB or more at SCB ATMs.

In April, GLN also plans to expand the ATM “QR Withdrawal” service in Japan together with KakaoPay. Through this, KakaoPay users are expected to be able to use QR-based ATM withdrawals not only in Thailand but also in Japan, further improving convenience for overseas travelers.

Lee Seok, CEO of GLN International, said, “An environment has now been established where KakaoPay app users can use ‘QR Withdrawal’ more easily and conveniently overseas,” adding, “We will continue to lead a simple withdrawal experience for overseas travelers that does not require separate currency exchange or carrying a physical card.”

GLN is a fintech subsidiary established after being spun off from Hana Bank in July 2021, and it provides QR payment and QR withdrawal services in major regions such as Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, China, and Japan. Based on cooperation with global financial institutions and platform companies, it is expanding its overseas payment network.
