"Korean tourists don't need to exchange currency"... Hana Bank and GLN launch QR payment service in Vietnam

Hana Bank and its subsidiary GLN have partnered with the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) and the Joint Stock Corporation for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) to launch a service that allows South Korean tourists visiting Vietnam to make QR payments without needing to exchange currency or install local apps.

On the 23rd, Hana Bank and its subsidiary GLN formed a partnership with the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) and BIDV, officially launching the 'QR Payment Service' for South Korean tourists visiting Vietnam.

GLN, which was spun off from Hana Bank in 2021, provides various overseas payment services including QR payment, QR ATM withdrawals, overseas remittances, and tuition payments for international students in major global regions and countries.

In this 'QR Payment Service,' Hana Bank participates as the sole settlement bank among South Korean financial institutions, while GLN is responsible for the payment operations linked to Vietnam's national QR payment network and works with Hana Bank to build the local QR payment service.

This allows South Korean tourists to make QR payments at merchants across major tourist destinations in Vietnam, including Da Nang, using the banking and fintech apps they use at home without separate currency exchange or local app installation. The QR payment service is available on major apps such as Hana Bank, Hana Card, Hana Money, Toss, and Purple GLN. The service is planned to expand to Naver Pay and other domestic banks in the future.

To celebrate the launch of this service, Hana Bank and GLN have decided to run a promotion until the 31st of next month, offering a 5% cashback on QR payments made at Lotte Mart and King Kong Mart in Vietnam.

Furthermore, on the same day, Hana Bank signed a business agreement with BIDV and the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Support Corporation (KIND) to 'Strengthen Cooperation in Vietnam and Overseas Infrastructure Projects,' initiating infrastructure projects in Vietnam and abroad.

Through this business agreement, the three companies agreed to establish strategic partnerships in the fields of infrastructure, energy, urban development, and green energy, and to jointly discover excellent investment business opportunities that can facilitate the expansion of Korean enterprises.

Lee Ho-seong, CEO of Hana Bank, said, "This agreement and service launch will serve as an opportunity to combine Vietnam's growth potential with Hana Bank's global financial capabilities to generate practical value. Through a strategy that encompasses infrastructure finance and digital payments, we will provide convenient and stable financial services while advancing our global payment network."
