GLN International (CEO Seok Lee, hereinafter GLN), a subsidiary of Hana Bank, announced that it has expanded the scope of its QR payment service provided throughout China to increase convenience for customers traveling to China.

The key feature of this service is that it has expanded the payment scope from existing merchant payments to daily life activities, such as subways and taxis, through a partnership with Tenpay Global, the operator of China's representative mobile payment service, WeChat Pay (Weixin Pay).

As a result, GLN users can now use QR payment services not only at existing UnionPay-based QR payment merchants but also at all WeChat Pay merchants in China. In particular, QR payments have become possible for local transport systems highly frequented in China, such as subways and taxis, which is expected to further enhance the practical payment convenience of travelers to China.

GLN established a payment infrastructure in China last November through a partnership with UnionPay International, and with this service expansion, it has widened the local QR payment scope in China to the level of all WeChat Pay merchants, offering a broader payment environment.

GLN users can use the QR payment service directly in China through the apps they use domestically, without installing a separate local app. The same service is supported on major partner apps including GLN's flagship app 'Purple GLN,' Hana 1Q, Hana Money, Hana Card, and Toss.

Furthermore, along with this service expansion, GLN's China QR payment service is scheduled to launch sequentially on Naver Pay and KB Star Banking, which is expected to further strengthen access to overseas easy payments based on major domestic financial and platform apps.

Seok Lee, CEO of GLN, stated, "Through this service expansion, travelers to China can now use QR payments more conveniently in various daily life sectors, including subways and taxis," adding, "We will continue to lead the way in providing easy and convenient payment experiences abroad, equal to the level of those in Korea."

GLN is a fintech subsidiary spun off from Hana Bank in July 2021, and provides QR payment and QR withdrawal services in key Asian regions such as Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Guam, and Saipan, expanding its global payment network based on cooperation with domestic and foreign financial institutions and platform companies.
